As our state’s flagship university, the University of Mississippi is committed to serving and leading our state. As one of America’s top research institutions, it is our responsibility to find new solutions to the health and social issues affecting not only Mississippi communities, but also the nation, and the world.
From big data to food deserts, disaster preparedness to brain injury recovery, these complicated issues demand collaborative thinking. The UM Flagship Constellation initiative launches a multidisciplinary response to inspire and accelerate meaningful solutions.
No one discipline holds all the answers. As a flagship university, we must leverage our collective strengths and insights to deliver holistic, imaginative solutions. Together, we can dive deeper to uncover the questions not being asked – and illuminate a new path forward. How can telehealth and urban planning build stronger communities? How can neurobiology and engineering lead us to new treatments for brain injury? How can we aggregate and analyze big data to reveal bigger answers to everything?
This is imperative and impactful work. Multidisciplinary research and creative achievement clusters of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners will focus on a particular issue to develop dynamic points of view and practical responses. These clusters will then work directly with communities to put theory to work and effect real results. Our mission is greater than creating data. We are changing lives.
